Live Review: Two Door Cinema Club, Last Dinosaurs, The Creases

The Creases delivered a nostalgic trip with turtle necks, contrasting colours and 1980s retro feel. A combination of swaying, twangy guitars and their heartbreaking vocals meant there were some serious new romanticism vibes coming out the set.

With the crowd considerably picking up in numbers when Last Dinosaur’s set swung by. With catchy melodies and addictive lyrics, Last Dinosaurs were a great warm up for the headline act, throwing out eclectic rhythms with songs Zoom and Apollo.  Briefly making a mistake at the start of one track, the band just brushed off the mishap in jest.

Two Door Cinema Club bassist Kevin Baird announced it was good to be back in Perth (their last time visiting being six years ago) and the audience couldn't have agreed more. They've grown up since their last visit and taken a step away from lo-fi indie to embrace the nuances of funk and mainstream alt-rock.

Kicking off with Cigarettes In The Theatre and Undercover Martyn, the audience was tossed into a world of familiarity. In some ways their set felt like the band’s stylistic journey, kicking off with the lo-fi fan favourites and knocking out more recent tracks like Are We Ready? and Bad Decisions, really winning the crowd over with What You Know. With vocalist Alex Trimble teasing the first lyrics line-by-line, the crowd erupted into an electric furore – making the most of the final moments with their favourite band.
