Live Review: The Winter Gypsy, The Montreals, Dan White

The warm, dusky evening paired with pretty fairy lights and simple decor created an intimate and atmospheric setting at The Jade, which befitted the night ahead.

The set started out with Dan White and fellow band members - which included his fiance on vocals and brother on guitar. It was lovely to see his family playing beside him and their obvious bond swept through and ensnared the crowd. Between the light blue curtains bordering the stage in the comfortably filled venue, White's performance was truly mesmerising. 

The next performer to grace the stage was Stefan Athanasov, the vocalist from four-piece Adelaide band The Montreals. Performing solo, his voice and guitar were fluid, reminiscent of Boy & Bear. Acoustic and guitar-driven, his raw performance was to be enjoyed by all lovers of music.

Making for a vibrant final act, The Winter Gypsy literally bounded onto the stage. The energy and crowd involvement was at a peak, vocalist Tushar Singh and his fellow bandmates bantering easily with the audience. He mentioned Father's Day and gave a lovely ol' shout out to his father, who was in the crowd.

The band were dynamic throughout. Soft vocals paired with strong guitar riffs, keyboard, drums and bass built into tender explosions - tunes that were as energetic as they were soul-soothing. The band are on tour in celebration of their EP launch Page I travelling around the east coast. Played a mix of new and old tracks, they had the crowd both singing along with familiar songs and at times swaying in anticipation for something new. Really exciting things to come for this band!
