Album Review: The Waifs - Ironbark

The Waifs come together to celebrate their 25th anniversary with Ironbark, an album written as a thank you to their fans.

It's organic and spontaneous and from the first track it's easy to hear that this is an album about reflection and development. Ironbark touches on everything from young love (Lion & Gazelle) to unfolding human tragedy (Syria), and then comes back around to include updated versions of previously released fan favourites. In places, Ironbark slips back to the early sounds of the band, a blend of alt-country and pop, but it progresses with strong blues and soul influences poking through, especially in the vocals and signature harmonies.

Ironbark is well-produced, with a warm, full sound that makes it perfect company for a lazy Saturday afternoon.
