"[A] fresh and well-crafted take on common tropes."
The Menzingers new album, Hello Exile, is jam-packed with 12 intimate pop-punk hits.
Although most of the songs follow a similar four-chord progression and don’t immediately strike as anything outstanding, the simplicity of the music provides the perfect backdrop for The Menzingers' beautifully written lyrics.
The album opens in true punk fashion with America (You’re Freaking Me Out), which slaps you in the face with a heavy political statement you can’t help but jump along to, while fourth track Last To Know is an emotional example of some of The Menzingers' best writing.
Each song is its own story, reflecting on a variety of topics, from youth and love to alcohol and even politics. While none of these are new concepts, Hello Exile delivers a fresh and well-crafted take on common tropes.
