"Carry is a powerful, enjoyable record – sombre thematic tones and all."
Frontman Matty Ellis has admitted he doesn’t write happy songs. It’s a lyrical preference for the melancholic that explains the six-piece’s classification as dark folk or Australian gothic.
Carry is a measured release of emotion though – three years in the making, each note of the eight-track album is noticeably well-crafted and embedded with meaning. The title track lies lyrically heavy with the weight of having to bear the burdens of others while lead single, Black Words, keenly encapsulates the labyrinth-like effect a bad situation can have. Carry is a powerful, enjoyable record – sombre thematic tones and all.
