"...to polish off the whole smouldering moody image."
After seeing them first perform at Origin 2015, amongst the hype of New Years Eve I was genuinely perturbed that they would not be able to deliver another killa set. Thankfully my worries were laid to rest last Thursday night.
Firing up the night with what he likes to describe as future funk, MXXWLL got a very jazzy and sensuous thing happening as the crowd trickled in. That spacey Afterhours track by Troyboi and his own 4U set a perfect bump n grind pace.
For the first time in a long time it was a venue where the ladies held the greater part of occupancy. Many a ‘slayy GURL’ was heard and an overall sexy vibe was pulsating throughout. They could drop it low without feeling like they were being visually molested by the creep at the top of the stairs.
With an incredibly smooth transition, on jumped the Snakehips duo and their Chinatown street sign lit up in blue neon lights. They launched into their crowd favourite Days With You and had everyone giving it a good sing along from the get-go. Continuing with the sultry swing of things they had their flip of The Weeknd’s Wanderlust lined up perfectly as they moved from dank ass hip hop with the likes of Mr A$AP Ferg through to some tinkly future in the shape of Waceracer’s Always.

Wrapping up with some decent trap thangs with Skrillex's F*ck that, they kept that bass low and added a touch more spice. Expected to become their next biggest hit, their track Cruel, a collaboration with Zayn Malik, was everything the crowd needed, and more, to polish off the whole smouldering moody image.
It couldn’t have been a Snakehips show without their chart-topping, show-stopping banger All My Friends, and it was true because everyone was wasted. Grappling onto one other and swaying along to an almost purely A capella crowd rendition of the track. They all couldn’t have hated the club that much because they were called back for an encore which ran graciously well over time but they mixed and mixed to their hearts content.
Kudos goes to one half of the duo who creeped out the front to join the rest of the punters to get photos and chew the fat over a couple cigarettes. Getting amongst the fan love is something that anyone and everyone will always appreciate.
