Live Review: Shlohmo

One of the most spoken about sets at Splendour (which he played three times) was from US producer Shlohmo. But this show isn't just about Shlohmo, it was also about the WEDIDIT collective. 

Before we see Shlohmo though, we get to experience that aforementioned other talent that is collectively known as WEDIDIT! And if you are a fan of Shlohmo, you're just as equally excited about seeing Nick Melons, D33J (who is also part of Shlohmo's live set) and Purple. The greatest thing about seeing this is that all of these producers are putting on incredibly intense shows and the crowd is reacting to every single beat made whether it's physically or emotionally.

D33J, possibly the more upbeat of the collective, puts on a show to almost equal that of Shlohmo, if not by his energy then by his song choices and his own remixes that are making it an even better performance, which include his amazing remix of Citgo by Chief Keef. This is followed by another incredible performance from Purple. Performing tracks from his latest album Silence & Remorse, Purple brought a personal touch to the night with live vocal remixes making it just that much more vivid.

Shlohmo then finally takes the stage, accompanied  by "Billy" on drums and D33J on guitar, keys and everything between. As he starts the show with Ten Days Of Falling you can see the crowd has already fallen silent in the live experience they're given. The next highlight is the live performance of Buried, which puts both Shlohmo and D33J on guitar and absolutely shows the versatility of these two producers.

Seeing Shlohmo performing songs from across his entire career under this moniker is the highlight of the Splendour In The Grass sideshows. Not only is Shlohmo a leader of this scene, but he also garners nothing but respect for him and the WEDIDIT collective. All night people are talking about the talent involved in doing what he does, and that they're there not just to party, but to experience something new. This show has shown us that it's possible Shlohmo and the WEDIDIT collective are the pioneers of what's to come for the EDM scene.
