"Nicholson's manic energy works for him as he stacks jokes inside jokes inside jokes."
Rhys Nicholson is just flat-out a delight to look at. Yet, as testament to his talent, his perfectly coiffed hair, stunning metallic nails and sharp suit take a back seat to the wickedly funny stuff that comes out of his mouth during new show Seminal.
Segues can be the bugbear of the most seasoned comedians, but Nicholson breezes through the hour like it's one easy conversation with a friend. The topics melt into each other so perfectly that you don't even realise he's gone from talking about monopoly to talking about old people dying on cruise ships in the space of ten minutes.
Nicholson's manic energy works for him as he stacks jokes inside jokes inside jokes. He often chastises himself when he feels something fell flat even when it actually hits wonderfully. Although Nicholson often trades on shock humour, he seems to have mellowed in the last couple of years and there's a few moments of genuinely sweet comedy. But then he makes a quip about cum and it's easy to see the acid-tongued comedian is still very much alive and well.
