"You’ll be singing about dying while simultaneously dancing your heart out."
Morbid Stuff is a fitting name for PUP’s third album. It's full of dark lyricism backed up by heavy and uplifting instrumentals and riffs. You’ll be singing about dying while simultaneously dancing your heart out. You can’t help but thrash along, especially given the gang vocals which are splattered throughout the record. It has us busting to join in on the singalongs on their next tour to let out our inner rage.
The lyrics in Closure will be there for you when you’re feeling bitter. The most fun you’ll have is during Sibling Rivalry and Bloody Mary, Kate & Ashley, with PUP's clever and cheeky lyricism brought to the forefront. For the heavy lovers, you’ll fall in love with Full Blown Meltdown, a feisty, political and emotional rant that is filled with fast breakdowns and angsty rants. For the broodier type, City will pull at your heartstrings with its toned down sound and emotionally charged vocals – that is for the first few minutes anyway!
It’s a record full of misery, mayhem and meltdowns. It’s feelgood, depressive punk. That is what PUP do so damn well, after all. Considering singer Stefan Babcock was told a few years ago to give up his dream due to vocal damage, it’s almost concerning how good this album is.
