"A brilliant and compelling combination of spoken word, comedy, performance art and satire."
Dressed in a revealing red dress with a shock of bright red hair, Penny Arcade has the energy of someone who has been in the business a long time.
Her show features poetic and engaging lines about the gentrification of New York ("New York has gone from being the Big Apple to the Big Cupcake"), packs versus herds ("mediocrity is the new black"), perpetual youth, nostalgia and longing. There's a great soundtrack of old songs playing in the background, and occasionally she jumps on the spot with one hand in the air, or pretends to fly with her eyes closed. Her show is truly mesmerising and everything she says makes so much sense. A brilliant and compelling combination of spoken word, comedy, performance art and satire.
