Live Review: Northeast Party House, Mosquito Coast, Carl Renshaw

Returning to the Republic Bar almost exactly a year later for a sold out show, Northeast Party House certainly did not disappoint.

People piled into the front bar, pumped up for what was to come. Hobart act Carl Renshaw got the night started, playing to a small but appreciative crowd before handing the reigns over to Mosquito Coast to bring the pre-party. It was gearing up to be a pretty rowdy crowd with a couple of fence jumpers trying their luck and some false tickets being stopped at the door; the place to be in Hobart on Friday night apparently!

Despite starting a little later than anticipated, no one seemed to mind and everyone was ready to groove. As Northeast Party House took to the stage, excitement was high in the crowd. It was already scorching and jackets were being tied around the waist left, right and centre. People were making last-minute dashes to the bar and the bathroom, gearing up to be among it for the long haul.

The six-piece played banger after banger and the crowd was feeding off their energy. Since their last visit, they have gained quite the fan base in Tasmania, which was evident as the majority of the crowd were screaming out the lyrics. A couple of the songs influenced spontaneous dance circles, as groups of people pushed their way out to make room for some crazy arm flailing as soon as the beat dropped.

Old favourites such as Your House, For You, Calypso Beach and Heartbreaker kept the momentum high right up until the early hours of the morning. Finishing off with Youth Allowance, it got everyone using up the last of their energy for one final dance-off. A ridiculously fun night was had by all and if word keeps getting around about how good Northeast Party House gigs are, sold out shows will definitely remain a common occurrence.
