"The Missouri-born frontman followed with a huge bow and a tip of his hat."
The evening heat was in full effect for the open-air venue. As if on cue, wafts of a neighbouring BBQ breezed through, authenticating the Americana themed gig just in time for All Our Exes Live In Texas to take the stage.
Wit and an abundance of talent quickly won over the PIAF crowd as the four Sydney-based ladies celebrated their first album release. After strumming through charming songs like I'm Gonna Get My Heart Cut Out, Sailboat and Boundary Road, champagne was popped and shared with lucky audience members. A melodic cover of Tame Impala was mingled in with All Our Exes' originals, all wrapped in a delicate country twang. The songstresses' cheeky banter was as equally welcomed as their clear, crafted lyrics, highlighting the band's knack for comedic showmanship. Jokes aside, their pure musical talent was evident, the gals serenading the crowd into a roaring cheer before they gracefully exited the stage.
The denim-clad Night Sweats strolled on stage, setting the tone for the infamous Nathaniel Rateliff. The Missouri-born frontman followed with a huge bow and a tip of his hat. Grinning ear to ear, and with all the grit and gumption he could muster, Rateliff belted out favourites like Howling At Nothing and I Need Never Get Old.
A contagious amount of energy poured out of the admittedly jet-lagged boys, motivating a sidestepping boogie from the wide-eyed audience. Endearing confessions about Perth's overwhelming heat in between brassy, horn-driven tracks had everyone cheering and thirsty for more. The momentum hardly faded for foot-stompin' numbers like Look It Here and the soulfully smooth Shake and Wasting Time. A surprising amount of appreciation gushed out of the hard-rocking songwriter while he tuned his guitar for a solo song. There wasn't a still foot in the house during the much-anticipated single SOB, solidifying Perth's love affair with the Americana sweethearts. The charismatic gents delivered an enthusiastic performance throughout the steamy hot evening, giving The Night Sweats a whole new meaning.
