Live Review: Motez

Saturday night at Villa was the Perth leg of The Future tour, bringing three eminent electronic acts to treat us right. Headlining on his single tour, Motez has been gaining a wide range of followers with respected mixes and remixes, along with radio play of his catchy house anthems.

Sydney electronic act Michael Dable, who goes by Mickey Kojak, opened to a filling dance floor with grooves fit for space and those lucky enough to get in early were making the most of it. He built indie-club bangers from low-down and subtle sounds and he made it look easy. An act that deserves attention from those who love a more composed dancefloor expression.

There was still more than adequate space for people to thoroughly enjoy themselves when Tigerilla brought his more sleazy stylings to the stage. The Adelaide-born artist played catchy dance tracks that got everyone in the mood.

Motez started at the very suitable time of 12.30am and by that time the Villa dancefloor was shoulder to shoulder, right up to the bar. This definitely hampered the vibe as people couldn't fully show their appreciation by swinging their elbows. The set was full of excellent remixes but it was the likes of The Future and Down Like This that got the best reception, while Praise, a serious club anthem, had the room grooving hardest.

All the acts complemented each other well and Saturday night at Villa was a must see for any electronic fans. Motez is finding a serious footing with his soulful dance music and is now a stable of the Australian electronic scene.
