Live Review: Lincoln le Fevre & The Insiders, The Sleepyheads

It was a homecoming of sorts for Lincoln le Fevre at this Republic Bar gig. Lincoln le Fevre & The Insiders wrote and created their debut album 30-Watt Heart in the depths of South Hobart some ten years ago and the band has been steadily evolving ever since. Then in late July, Lincoln le Fevre & The Insiders released Come Undone, which has quickly received high praise. The album is an example of le Fevre's honest songwriting and his bullshit-free, laid-back manner and it was an absolute treat to see the band perform it live.

The night started with Launceston's own The Sleepyheads. The Sleepyheads are quickly making a name for themselves, supporting bands like Dune Rats and The Front Bottoms, and have recently been signed to Penultimate Records. And they were the perfect band to prep the crowd for le Fevre. The local punk band pleased and warmed up the crowd with their funny and witty lyrics. The Sleepyheads were obviously having a good time and the crowd ate it up.

The love and respect Hobart has for le Fevre & The Insiders was evident from the moment he walked out on stage. Le Fevre and co opened with On And On, an old favourite that started the set off perfectly; the crowd danced, sang, drank and revelled in le Fevre's impactful lyrics.

The energy in the room was maintained throughout the entire gig. Le Fevre could not stop smiling as he sang his country-emo lyrics and the crowd fed them right back to him. Lincoln le Fevre & The Insiders put on a mesmerising, passion-filled show that no one present in the bandroom will forget in a hurry.
