Lawrence Leung is an endearingly geeky, quirky comedian.
And he's imaginative. With his latest show, Very Strange Things, the Melburnian breaks away from conventional 'stand-up'. It's more of an unofficial live spin-off from his ABC TV doco series Unbelievable. Indeed, Leung demonstrates what he's learnt from investigating psychic phenomena – and the seemingly unexplainable. Though on telly he comes across as the naif, Leung now describes himself as both sceptic (like The X-Files' Scully) and residual believer (Mulder). He conducts experiments on audience members, his flair for improvised gags apparent when things go awry. Ultimately, Leung plays the illusionist, charlatan and scientist with witty intelligence.
