Live Review: Last Dinosaurs, RAT!hammock, Leopard Lake

Brisbane-based indie-rockers Last Dinosaurs kicked off their Yumeno Garden Australian tour in Perth with Leopard Lake getting the party started. The Perth pop duo Sam Ford and Storm Wyness rocked through Only One and Heart Of Yours, anchored by Wyness' sweet vocals and dreamy electro melodies.

Next up, Melbourne four-piece RAT!hammock blew the crowd's minds with Blood To Bruise and new single Ghost. With their indie-rock sound and roaring guitars, they gave the audience a taste of three unreleased songs, which got the crowd moving and pumping.

The crowd at Jack Rabbit Slim's were both buzzing and restless as they waited, eager to get the show on the road. As the clock struck 10.30pm, Last Dinosaurs rushed onto the stage. “Hey Perth,” lead singer Sean Caskey greeted the crowd who squealed with excitement as the boys launched into Bass God with its mesmerising guitar licks and catchy lyrics. Taking a step back to 2012 with their In A Million Years album, Time & Place got the crowd moving with its disco-pop rhythm. 

The sweet mellow melody of Italo Disco got the crowd swaying while Forget About's electro vibes kept the hypnotic mellow feeling going.  Dominos was a clear crowd favourite, with everyone singing along to every lyric as the infectious baseline and soaring guitars filled the air – it was a banger. Caskey’s vocals were smooth and dreamy, stealing hearts with the captivating lyricism of Sense and Weekend.

With the majority of the set pulled from their new album Yumeno Garden, they kept long-running fans happy with a couple of bangers from their earlier records showing how their sound has grown and matured. Shallow Boy pulled heartstrings before Everything Relative gave us '80s nostalgia that continued with Zoom. 

After the guitars rang out for Eleven, Last Dinosaurs bid us goodbye only to come back and finish off their set with Honolulu, whose catchy melody had the whole venue dancing and heads bopping. They squished in Apollo, taking the crowd to another level with a few lucky punters storming the stage to dance with the them.
