Live Review: Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Boom! Bap! Pow!

Local party starters Boom! Bap! Pow! have no problems pulling a mighty crowd to an early timeslot.

Their rump-shaking reputation proceeds them enough that they'll deck out half the floor comfortably, with the other half being drawn in by their sweet dance energy. Although vocalist Novac Bull clearly struggled with the heat thanks to her choice of polyester shirt, thankfully it did little to slow her unstoppable dancing, reckless energy and stage shimmies on set closer Suit.

Their Perth Festival show was the last on a long tour for Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and this trio of siblings made sure that we got the necessary celebration to see them off with a bang.

Despite constant rain, the relentless energy of this UK rockabilly outfit was more than enough to keep things swinging. Endlessly swapping instruments and vocal duties, with their father Graeme sitting back on guitar, their retro approach and vintage vibe held something for every punter. The swift boogie-woogie beats of Down On My Knees, the charming sway in Just One Kiss or Whole Lot Of Love's rough, brawling riff; the setlist stretched to every corner of the band's evolution in sound over the years.

The diversity exposed no weak performances from the trio, with each having their individual star moments. Kitty Durham shone during a wild marathon harmonica performance and the impressive vocal soars during Team Strong, Daisy Durham was a rocket on the snare hits of Going Up The Country and Lewis Durham set their blues sound ablaze with Good Looking Woman. By the time the sweaty dancehall shakes of Mean Son Of A Gun drew the set to a close, both the crowd and band were spent, grinning from ear to ear, and were taken over by a rocking dance party at Perth's Chevron Gardens.
