"His songwriting is tight, but the lyrics are earnest to the point of sappiness (Everywhere and Best Friend)"
Jason Mraz is the upbeat guy in the hat who loves to love, and odes to lovers, friends and the earth abound here in saccharine acoustic guitar-driven pop-rock.
His songwriting is tight, but the lyrics are earnest to the point of sappiness (Everywhere and Best Friend are probably the worst offenders) and it’s a little dull without the humour of his older work. The latter half of the album is stronger musically, with ballad-done-right A World With You and single You Can Rely On Me giving the relentless positivity a more listenable vehicle.
