"The album's tight, genuine, memorable and evocative."
Like his collaborators in Refused, Dennis Lyxzen has consistently been painted as an innovator on the basis of one album.
But, in reality, the majority of his output has been defined by charisma, principle and songwriting. Which is to say, while The Beautiful Stories will not satisfy anyone looking for something boundary-breaking, it successfully delivers on Lyxzen's true brand promise. At just seven songs, it's barely an album. INVSN's sound still isn't that removed from Britain's post-punk revival in 2008. But, the album's tight, genuine, memorable and evocative; great music of principle and verve.
