Live Review: Horrorshow

When Horrorshow's Bardo State tour hits the Brisbane leg of their headlining schedule, the crowd show they have really missed these two Blue Mountaineers since their last hike up to River City. Horrorshow feel the love tonight.

With producer Adit back in the engine bay manning the mechanics of their sound, and flanked by Freddy Crabs (Sticky Fingers) on the keys, openers Turquoise Prince (who throw in on numerous hooks for the new album) and David Dallas round out this evening's all-in affair.  

Horrorshow chart the set through their ten-plus year catalogue, navigating from Inside Story and King Amongst Many through to All Summer Long (from their debut album The Grey Space), our headliners then guide us back into their brand new Bardo State set. MC Solo (Nick Bryant-Smith to his mum) steers the action from the front of the stage and proves to be a commanding lead from start to finish tonight. He stays intimately connected with everybody in the house.

When Solo and Adit pour over their Like A Version covers of both Can I Kick It? (A Tribe Called Quest)/Walk On The Wild Side (Lou Reed) and the classic Australian ballad No Aphrodisiac (The Whitlams), the night's Kodak moment registers during a rolling, crowd-driven a cappella of the latter song's chorus. The way in which these guys recreate these ditties live makes us suspect they'll be ringing in our heads for days — Horrorshow hooked!

Proper artisans of songwriting and performance, Horrorshow showcase their finely tuned tunes with finesse and their performance is pristine. Bank on a live Horrorshow gig to make lasting memories.
