Live Review: Ellie Goulding, Asta

There's a cheerful atmosphere among the crowd as Asta opens festivities. If Ellie Goulding's show were a cake, Asta Evelyn Binnie-Ireland would be the cherry on top. At the ripe age of 22, this young woman impresses with well-balanced, sweet electro-pop. Her vocal on the catchy tune Wild Emotion is a delight. The percussion is paired with floaty keys and the disco accents work perfectly. Asta ends her punchy show on a high note when Allday joins her onstage to perform Dynamite. The single effectively mixes disco vibes with rap much to the delight of the audience.

We're thrilled that Ellie Goulding chose Melbourne as the last stop on her Delirium world tour. The album's mysterious Intro (Delirium) plays out before the pop star appears in the flesh moments later, her silhouette visible behind long white curtains. Holding On For Life beautifully showcases this artist's sweet, luscious and slightly husky voice. The audience is thrilled by her performance and by the music, which perfectly replicates the recorded versions of these songs. Goulding moves on with her hit Something In The Way You Move before the enthusiastic crowd. But it's when the first notes of Outside, the Calvin Harris song on which she features, resonate that the audience starts to sing along. The young fans seated in the stands rise to their feet as the singer gets closer to one side of the stage. "This is a very special night for me, Melbourne," she shares. "This is the 80th and last show of my world tour."

The ballad Devotion follows and shows off the singer's powerful voice. Keep On Dancin', with its catchy melody and whistle sounds, is warmly received by the crowd. The visuals for this song are impressive, striking projections and coloured flashing lights on the screen enhance the great choreography Goulding and her dancers execute. The show reaches its climax with the hit Burn. Enthralled by Goulding's contagious energy, the audience dances and jumps, grasping the last moments of a tour that in the singer's own words is now "gone forever".
