"Genius? Goat? Our money's on a bit of both."
Look out! Here come the bongos.
Many felt that Dan Bejar was pushing his luck dabbling with soft-jazz synths and muted trumpets on his last full-length. If anything, Poison Season walks on thinner ice as Bejar's dreamy quasi-poetical musings wander over even lusher arrangements. He's a cunning chameleon though, as songs like Times Square fit some of the most achingly beautiful music he's ever recorded against catastrophically pretentious lyrics in a way that somehow seems to make perfect sense. Genius? Goat? Our money's on a bit of both.
