Cypress Hill prove they're still on top of their game with a bodies-flailing, beer-flying gig in Perth.
Cypress Hill are getting on. And for lads now in their 40s, they sure as shit know how to put on a grand show – and, let’s not forget – light a few on stage while they’re at it.
While the second level of Metro City was closed as the gig hadn’t sold out, the ground floor and mosh pit were packed with young hip hop fans in snap-backs, older dudes smoking weed and a few girls who were ready to party.
As Californian legends Cypress Hill took to the stage, there was no bullshitting about; it was straight into party kick-starter I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That and all hands were in the air.
And they remained in the air as the crew started an audience chant, belting out, “fuck yeah, do that shit” before a deliciously energetic rendition of House Of Pain’s Jump Around. It was already getting sweaty by the time When The Shit Goes Down smashed through the joint but it was How Could I Just Kill A Man which tore the house down. Insane In The Membrane was a classic highlight. It was a fitting time for joints to be lit on stage as Roll It Up, Light It Up, Smoke It Up began and sure enough, the crowd happily erupted, with rolling, lighting and smoking taking place both on stage and throughout the relaxed crowd.

Dr Greenthumb was an obvious follow-up, as was Hits From The Bong. A To The K took everyone back and then the boys took it down a notch with Illusions before getting everyone hyped up for the big finale, (Rock) Superstar. Limbs were flailing, bodies jumping and beer was flying for three minutes of juicy, entertaining, Cypress Hill beats.
A quick thank-you from the lads and then it was all over. Despite no encore, Cypress Hill smashed out a tight show which showed exactly why they’re still at the top of their game. On ya, lads!
