Live Review: Culture Club

After 15 long years Culture Club finally returned to Adelaide last night, playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for one hell of a show! Featuring singer Boy George, guitarist/keyboardist Roy Hay, bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss, these guys sure showed us that they aren't a bunch of washed up '80s has-beens!

Kicking off the show with Black Money was like sprinkling the audience with a little stardust of the magic that was yet to come later in the night. Boy George put his heart and soul into the performance and glowed with a demeanour that showed he is still, if not more, passionate about performing as he was 15 years ago.

Boy George interacted well with the audience, jostling around and participating in light banter; his personality reflected his years of performing experience. The vibe immediately presented itself as light and joyful, and thus contributed to the audience's vivacious mood throughout the show.

Culture Club's tracks, Move Away and Miss Me Blind had the audience out of their chairs dancing. Boy George then covered a slow Johnny Cash ballad. Culture Club celebrated both the past and the present and often in their dialogue alternated between the then and the now. This is important as older fans were still able to feel connected, yet the younger fans weren't excluded.  

Finishing off with Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon was a great way to end the show and left the crowd in high spirits.
