Live Review: Carl Cox And Eric Powell's Mobile Disco

Carl Cox and Eric Powell's Mobile Disco rolled into South Australia for the third year running and while the crowd may have been a bit smaller than the previous McLaren Vale events, the show went off without a hitch in the gorgeous weather. 

Much of Eric Powell's mix focused on disco with very dynamic sounds and some classic tunes. At some points, the music was a little too chilled, with not enough of a rhythmic component to get people dancing, but by the same token, this is symptomatic of a lot of gentler house music. When Carl Cox took over the decks, the intensity lifted a little and his slightly fuller brand of house really pumped up the atmosphere. 

The first guest vocalist was CeCe Peniston, who millions have danced to on dancefloors the world over. In full voice, she sounded huge and when it came down to her smash hit Finally the atmosphere was really electric, with hundreds singing along. Peniston's charisma was undeniable; clearly someone who has spent decades on big stages in the spotlight.

When Peniston handed the mic over to Robin S, the evening was in full swing. Both vocalists were on top of their game. Robin S is a big deal in house music as a songwriter, as well as a singer, and when the synth from her smash hit You Got To Show Me Love rang out, this marked the high point of the night. 

As darkness descended on the Barossa and Carl Cox finished the night, organisers would have been thrilled with the event, although queues for the ladies toilets and a lack of toilet paper on occasion is probably something they'll have to have a look at.
