Excepting single Come A Little Closer, the bottom rushing up from almost every track betrays a frustrating lack of depth.
Without a genuine anthem like 2008's Ain't No Rest For The Wicked, the latest release from Cage the Elephant swings too close to cabaret. Ten saucy tracks beg for attention with singalong choruses, falsetto and fuzz, and a whole lot of rawking out – and Cage the Elephant really want you to believe them. All this makes Melophobia diverting on first listen, but taper so quickly it's brittle before it has a right to be. Excepting single Come A Little Closer, the bottom rushing up from almost every track betrays a frustrating lack of depth.
