Album Review: Buscabulla - Regresa

Regresa, meaning "return" is the debut album from Puerto Rican duo Buscabulla. The record follows Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo del Valle’s bittersweet journey home after living in New York, to a post-Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico, facing social and economic challenges.

Recorded at the couple's home and with additional production and mixing from Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, MGMT, Solange, Blood Orange), the Spanish-language album is a smooth and experimental blend of synthy, indie dance-pop and percussive Latin beats. 

The rolling drumline snare of Vamano (meaning "let’s go") is a powerful, driving opener to the otherwise mellow record. The dulcet La Fiebre which follows is contrastingly soothing, with a rich sound palette and layers of percussion. It’s dreamy lead single NTE ("No Te Equivoques" or "Don’t Get It Wrong") however, carried by Berrios’ reverb soaked vocals, with it’s grooving bassline and hazy synths that stands out as the album highlight. 

Through experimentation, Buscabulla have created a sound that’s entirely their own. You might not understand the lyrics of Regresa, but you'll feel the meaning behind them.
