Live Review: Blessthefall, In League, Aveira Skies, Afraid Of Heights

The annual Boys Of Summer tour had Perth feeling a little uneasy in the lead up with a pull out from Like Moths To Flames and The Color Morale. Making the most of the show, it turned into a chance to fill the bill with some of Perth's heavy talent alongside headliner Blessthefall on Saturday night.

Opening the night as punters trickled in was Afraid Of Heights. Playing a solid set with gritty raw vocals and beats to match, their fairly aggressive-sounding hardcore was highlighted by the band's standout tune of the night and latest single, She's A Whore, He's A Liar, They Make A Perfect Couple.

Fresh from a recording and a tour of the UK, Aveira Skies were up next. Bustin' out tight metal-core tunes, they infused their songs with an occasional melodic tone but were at all times ejecting heavy frequencies. Local fans amongst the mix screamed and head-banged along to the breakdown-fueled set that prepped the night for what was to come.

With the lack of room on Amplifier's small stage, In League took their set partly down to the floor, adding extra depth and a chance for members to run around, dominating their instruments and screaming in the faces of fans. From the first note more and more punters piled in to hear them play their favourite tracks off the band's albums. Recent addition, bassist and clean vocalist Adam Chase, proved his worth as he held perfect melodies complemented by the raw screams of Ricky Thomas. In League didn't just play, they took the stage, made it what they wanted and were pretty much in control from there.

Watching Blessthefall is like watching a giant ball of expeditious energy bursting to every corner of the room, exploding with sharp guitar riffs, heavy breakdowns and vocals to send shivers down your spine. As soon as they hit the stage fans excitedly formed the traditional circle pit in the opening to You Wear A Crown But You're No King, which lasted to the end of the set.

Bodies were thrown around to the beat of Matt Traynor's intense double-kick and the unclean screams of Jared Warth during Exodus. Frontman Beau Bokan knew how to perfectly work the crowd, igniting fans with just enough cheeky banter and vocals that hit each note perfectly. On Bokan's word, fans jumped on stage to high five him, creating a flurry of stage diving that left the floor vibrating during their The Reign. Screaming fans ensured an encore of crowd favourites Awakening and Promised Ones played to perfection, with Blessthefall successfully leaving the air with a hint of sweat and heap of satisfaction.
