It is an incredible debut release from a very talented trio of Australians.
They are band who compare themselves to the “simplicity and catchiness of The Beatles, combined with Coldplay-like chords and melodies” – and they are definitely right on the money. Piano pop-rockers Bill Parton Trio have released their self-titled debut EP and it is the musical embodiment of a warm spring afternoon: heart-warming, memorable and full of hope.
Opening track Closer Now (featuring K21 and Cam Blokland) offers some impressive falsetto from lead vocalist Will Parton and is certainly the highlight of the EP. With electronic synth in the background, moments of simplicity just involving Parton's voice, a surprise hip hop verse that is incredibly well placed and a melody that is just captivating, it is hard not to love this song.
Falling For You Again is reminiscent of the butterflies and goosebumps that come with falling in love with someone over again, or never really falling out of love, while debut single Going Away is all about leaving the undesirable things in life behind, as well as the people you love, in order to seek bigger and better things.
Their lyrics can be repetitive, but in a good way. They're the kind of lines you want to hear over and over again – full of heart, full of meaning, drenched with charisma and damn catchy. It is an incredible debut release from a very talented trio of Australians.
