"She is so likeable that even when she talks with no filter, which is most of the show, let’s be honest, you still want to be BFFs with her."
Becky Lucas’ stand-up style is pretty straight, a pleasure with so many high-tech shows around, so when she utilised some ambient music to tell a story of her divorced parents, it was a bit of a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. Her obvious trepidation at even doing that however, seemed obvious.
Throughout the hour-long show, there were times where she flipped from straight and serious to crude and silly – it’s that skill that kept the audience on their toes. Lucas is not one to mince words either. She discussed her addiction to mobile phones, feelings on religion, self-love and why the Seafood Sensation sub is the worst sandwich at Subway. She is so likeable that even when she talks with no filter, which is most of the show, let’s be honest, you still want to be BFFs with her. Still, you do get the feeling that you don’t want to piss her off lest you will end up in her next show.
The crowd, almost exclusively from the same generation as Lucas, enjoyed the ride with many nodding heads and blurts of laughter. Lucas is, after all, a figurehead for anyone about to bridge the 20s to 30s age gap, and her observations are as astute as you can get.
