"This record is more consistent than its predecessor."
It was always going to be interesting to see what happened with Adelaide band Atlas Genius' second record.
After the success of 2013's When It Was Now — and the breakaway success of its lead singles — it's refreshing to see that rather than replicate their debut, they've pivoted slightly. While Molecules, this album's lead single, follows a synth-guitar-pop-by-numbers formula, this record is more consistent than its predecessor. Acoustic ballad Balladino and slow-burner Friends With Enemies add to the colour and are well-rounded replacements to the chart-topping singles and resultant peaks and troughs that could've weighed this record down.
