Album Review: 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood

5 Seconds Of Summer have always been the kind of band to be dismissed by self-described 'real' music fans, but they've always deserved more credit for their talents. And, honestly, Youngblood just might see them get it. Either way, it should be massive.

On their third album, they've shed their pop-punk trappings and gone pure pop. In terms of style, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Carly Rae Jepsen dropping any of these songs on a more melancholy follow-up to Emotion. 

Youngblood isn't quite flawless, but it is a remarkably consistent listen. The band's last album opened strong, but quickly fell flat. In contrast, Youngblood closes with what is probably the best song of the band's career: Ghost Of You. And the rest of the record puts up a solid fight for that title.

Backlash can strike a band at any time. But, regardless of whether Youngblood ends up as one of the year's biggest pop albums (again, it should), it's a very solid contender for being one of the best.
