Wollongong’s Yours & Owls Festival is pulling out all the stops after their brief break in 2024, swapping out their usual venue for the striking views of Wollongong harbour from Flagstaff Hill.

After postponing the official Yours & Owls Festival 2024 due to logistical booking issues, organisers rang in 10 years in the business with a pre-birthday bash in October. During the event, headliners Peking Duk announced the return of the Yours & Owls Festival in March of 2025.

Trading out the festival’s previous locations of Stuart Park and the University of Wollongong, Yours & Owls Festival 2025 will be held at the former military fort Flagstaff Hill, home to sweeping 360 views of the harbour and City Beach.

Flagstaff Hill was first established in the 1890s as a defence against a Russian attack. For Yours & Owls, it’ll be a place of peace and celebration, hosting multiple stages, bars, food and art showcases among the cannons.

A huge benefit to the relocation is the broadened accessibility for all patrons. Being held closer to the City Centre allows for direct transport routes, better connectivity, walking distance to accommodation and minimal travel to Y&O after parties, making the entire festival experience as seamless as possible.

In addition to the venue change, organisers have announced an official Bush Regeneration and Beach Clean-Up Date at Puckeys Estate in Wollongong’s Fairy Meadow on the 24th of January, 2025.

Working in partnership with Wollongong City Councils Rise and Shine Bush Care Group, the event encourages locals to support their local area by learning about the rare coastal habitat on Wollongong’s beaches and discussing how efforts can be made to preserve the city’s natural beauty and keep the waterways as pristine and safe as possible. In addition to their involvement, all participants will go in the running to win a ticket to the festival.

Speaking on the initiative, Wollongong City Council’s Areas Coordinator Greg Fikkers said: “We’re really proud of our strong and passionate Bushcare community in Wollongong, who volunteer their own time to improve the local environment in areas like Puckeys by removing invasive weeds and planting natives in their place,’’

“Through our established relationship with Yours and Owls and this ticket-donation scheme for participants, we’re also able to attract a broader range of community members to Bushcare. We’ve certainly found this since the relationship started in 2018. We’ve had people come along with the intention to participate in a one-off regeneration day and pick up a free concert ticket, only to find they really enjoy themselves and want to continue as a volunteer,”

“Over the years we have worked with Yours and Owls to plant more than 1500 native plants and conducted numerous clean ups from Guest Park in Fairy Meadow to Puckeys Estate at North Wollongong. The event in January will see the relationship continue, with native tree planting and reducing waste by cleaning up our foreshores and bushland reserves.’’
