Rumours in the rock and roll world suggest that AC/DC might be touring with a new bassist in 2024. The news arrives while the Aussie rockers haven’t yet revealed their plans for this year and performed with bassist Cliff Williams at Power Trip Festival just a few months ago.
In a new Instagram post, podcast host and insider Dean Delray claimed that he’d heard from a “very reliable source” that AC/DC would be touring with a different bassist this year.
“I’m not gonna say who it is; I’ll let AC/DC make that announcement, but I will say this: 3 years ago, I had Cliff Williams on my podcast, and he straight up said he would not be touring again and I was surprised that the fans didn’t seem to pick up on that,” Delray wrote alongside a clip of his interview with Williams.
Delray continued, “I just want to take this time to thank Cliff for absolutely rocking us on the Bass for over 40 years. An absolute killer of Groove. I love you, brother.”
In the video, Williams discussed his infrequent appearances on stage, telling Delray that it was a decision made with his health in mind. “We all have our issues down the line. You know, so much as for me, I just can't do that anymore.”
Delray asked if it was mental or physical health he was struggling with, to which Williams replied, “I think both of them, really. I definitely have some physical issues, which I won't bore you with the details, but, yeah, I mean, it's tough. So, I'm very grateful for everything. It's been fantastic. But I just don't want to do that anymore.”

In November, possible European tour plans for AC/DC were reported. Dieter Reiter, the mayor of Munich, let slip in an interview that the rockers had a date locked at the city’s Olympic Stadium on 12 June 2024.
Reiter reportedly shared the details at a council meeting and told a journalist: “I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret.”
If AC/DC do return to Europe next year, it’ll be the first time audiences have seen the band with singer Brian Johnson since July 2015.
Speculation around AC/DC’s possible first tour in Australia since 2015 arose in October after Cherry Bar owner James Young posted this on Facebook after they headlined the inaugural Power Trip festival in California:
A little birdy told me last night that AC/DC will 100% be touring Australia in 2024, and this Set List that they recently played at Power Trip Festival in California will be the precise set list we get.
If you want blood, you got it!
Now we all just need to pray that we get Melbourne-born drummer Phil Rudd back in the band for this Tour.
