Why Is Lana Del Rey Working At Waffle House?

Lana Del Rey was seen in an Alabama Waffle House restaurant, wearing a waitress uniform and serving customers coffee and food. At the time of writing, it’s unclear if this is all a bit for a music video or if the Born To Die singer actually has a job at Waffle House.

According to The Line Of Best Fit, Del Rey looks to have been exploring Alabama in the last week, having been spotted in a nail salon in the city of Birmingham and walking through downtown Florence.

“To say I am ecstatic is an understatement!!!” a fan named Karina Cisneros Juarez wrote on Facebook after bumping into Del Rey at Waffle House and taking a picture with the singer. “I have been a huuuge fan of Lana Del Rey for over a decade, so meeting her today was truly insane.”

She told AL.com, Alabama’s largest news website, that meeting the singer was “A bit surreal. I just told her how much I loved her music and her work in general. She was super lovely and incredibly nice.”

Fans on Twitter have also enjoyed watching the footage and viewing the pictures of Del Rey working at Waffle House. One wrote, “Imagine just going to eat and Lana Del Rey is your waitress.” Another commented, “Singer, actress, waitress, 10-minute songs, Waffle House employee. What is it Miss Lana Del Rey can’t do?” A third quipped, “Lana Del Rey serving me eggs, coffee and sausage would be the highlight of my life”.

While Del Rey isn’t currently touring the US promoting her new album, Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, released in March 2023, there is a lyric in the song Paris, Texas, that might hint at why she’s currently in Alabama: “I took a train to Spain, just a notebook in my hand/Then I went to see some friends of mine, down in Florence, Alabama.”

AL.com checked with the recording studios, FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound, to see if Del Rey had recently recorded some new music and was reportedly told she wasn’t.

Del Rey’s ninth album, Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums and Vinyl Chart earlier this year, giving the singer her fifth #1 album in Australia.

In the UK, she scored her sixth #1, beating Depeche Mode with their latest album, Memento Mori, and tied with Radiohead, Blur and Arctic Monkeys on the list of artists with the most UK #1 albums. She also topped the UK vinyl releases chart.
