With respect/apologies to DZ Deathrays and Dune Rats
West Australian outfit Sail On! Sail On! have just released the clip for Hobart, from their debut full-length album, You Are Not You, taking more than a little inspiration from the lads in DZ Deathrays and Dune Rats in the process.
It's an influence the Perth outfit are all too happy to cop to, detailing their quest to ingest a kilogram of hummus in under three minutes — two minutes and 50 seconds, if we're being specific — as being akin to embarking on "the DZ Deathrays and Dune Rats challenge", referencing those bands' infamous clips in which they smash through a bottle of Jagermeister (The Mess Up) and punch an inhuman number of cones (Red Light Green Light) respectively.
"I had the idea after a house show at my place," the band's Simon "Skinny" O'Leary said in a statement, "where I asked everyone to bring a plate of vegan food.
"90% of my non-vegan friends brought hummus. Seriously, there was like eight kilograms of hummus at this party. I pitched the idea to pay homage to those amazing DZ Deathrays and Dune Rats clips, and it snowballed from there."
"We had to do it in one take," fellow member Ethan Reed added, "because there was no way we'd be able to eat that much hummus again. Ever, maybe."
