The indie rock vets channel Westeros in the clip for 'The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box'
US indie-rock elder statesmen Modest Mouse continue to serve up musical deliciousness from their recent LP Strangers To Ourselves, and the latest video accompaniment they've produced — for the driven, rapid-fire attack of The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box — only serves to complement the aural strengths on offer.
For the new clip, the band have seemingly looked for inspiration in the fantasy world of George R.R. Martin and HBO's Game Of Thrones, albeit with the tweak that most of the population of whatever mediaeval hellscape is depicted here is totally fine with getting about looking like human garbage.
Frontman Isaac Brock plays up his wild-eyed monarch role with the kind of gleeful insanity that you'd expect from the man who has kept the slow-moving Modest Mouse train on the rails all these years, while his bandmates and some extras fill the kingdom, which, granted, only appears to cover most of a burnt-out hill. There also appears to be witchcraft and cannibalism, or at least a vivid hallucination thereof, at about the 2.15 mark, but it's way too early in the day to make sense of that footage right now.
Bonus points for recreating the Viper's gruesome death, though (super-old spoiler alert).
