WAAX To Farewell Fans With ‘The Parting Gift’ Live Show

Brisbane punk rockers WAAX are going on hiatus. After ten years as a band, the long, annual grind of touring, and a couple of albums, the group are taking a much-needed break from writing and performing music. 

However, not everything is bleak - WAAX will play a farewell show they’ve lovingly called The Parting Gift before going on hiatus. You can say goodbye (for now) to WAAX on Friday, 9 June, at The Triffid. Special guests will join the band on the night; they’ll be announced soon. Tickets are on sale now. 

“This is for you, the community. This project WAAX has always belonged to you first and foremost. Ten years is a long ass time, enough years to experience the best and weather the worst,” vocalist Maz DeVita said in a statement.

She continued, “This is the most fucked up thing I’ve ever had to write because I never thought it possible: WAAX as you know it is going on hiatus. All I ever wanted was to play gigs and make records - who knew shit could get so complicated. 

“To those who have supported us through the rollercoaster we give you this parting gift as an offering of thanks and love. I love you all more than you know, for real, you’re the reason we did any of this and kept hanging on. I will be back one day stronger than ever. x.”

Earlier this year, the band shared a reel on Instagram showing DeVita in shock - she had discovered that the group's song Wild & Weak featured on the then-#1 Netflix TV hit, Ginny & Georgia.

"Holyyyyy thanks for taking our tune ‘Wild and Weak’ for a spin Ginny and Georgia!!" the band wrote on Instagram, tagging the Ginny & Georgia Instagram account, as well as Netflix and Writer and Executive Producer of the show, Sarah Lampert.

Lampert replied to Waax's video: "Love that song!!! So fun and perfect for the show our music supervisor knew what she was doing with that one fer suuuuuure," while Ginny & Georgia's showrunner, Writer and Executive Producer Debra J. Fisher added, "Love that song thank you so much".

WAAX released their second album, At Least I’m Free, last year. The album found WAAX teaming up with the production team behind their debut breakout album Big Grief - Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger) and Grammy Award-Winner Nick DiDia (Rage Against The Machine). 

The album features Read Receipts, the Queensland Music Award-winning single Most Hated Girl, Help Me Hell, and the Linda Perry co-write Dangerous, in addition to some fresh collaborations, including US rock superstar K.Flay on No Doz.
