Voyager Hit #3 On The Australian Albums Chart With 'Fearless In Love'

Progressive synth-metal is in good hands, as Perth’s Voyager take their new album, Fearless In Love to #3 on the Australian Albums Chart, #7 in vinyl sales and #35 on the ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart.

“It just gets better and better - after the love Australia gave us for Eurovision and the sold-out homecoming shows in June, we now have our new album “Fearless in Love” making its ARIA chart debut with some incredible placements. Thank you!” Voyager wrote on Twitter yesterday (21 July).

Voyager’s latest record is cinematic, throwing the band in all directions, from synth-pop to breakdowns featuring Make Them Suffer’s Sean Harmanis.

As The Music’s album review stated, “Fearless In Love is eleven tracks and around 45 minutes of pure catharsis and exhilaration. It is a soaring statement of intent from a band on a mission and enjoying every single living second of it.” Right on the money.

Reviewer Rod Whitfield added, “This album is something very special. This band is something very special. We are lucky to have them. Get behind them (even though Eurovision is over), and support them. Buy this album. Go to one of their shows and buy some merch. Buy some of their merch online. Fearless In Love is one of the albums of the year, no question (it is very likely to be in this scribe’s top three at least), and should go down as an all-time Aussie classic.”

On Fearless In Love, drummer Ashley Doodkorte told Kill Your Stereo that the band “were really intent on trying to sharpen our songwriting as much as possible”. This led to Voyager scrutinising “every part, every rhythm, every change” to make each song irresistible in its own way.

Voyager’s collaboration with Harmanis, Ultraviolet, was the first song the band released since their ninth-place finish at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

This year, a band represented the country for the first time in Australia's history with Eurovision. And this is a metal band that utilises soaring melodies, masterful riffs, keytar solos, powerhouse rhythms, and enough charisma that it should have won the 67th Song Contest.

As well as Eurovision and strong singles, the album’s sales were likely boosted by a phenomenal homecoming tour across Australia, which saw vocalist Danny Estrin tell the nearly sold-out audience at Brisbane’s The Zoo: “For those of you new to metal, welcome – metal is good for you, it’s good for your mental health, it makes you feel things”.
