"Don’t miss this gentle yet commanding musical force."
US jazz legend Kamasi Washington has confirmed a special show in Sydney for this October.
The musician and composer will return to Australia with an eight-piece band to perform in-the-round at the Sydney Opera House after selling out the venue last year.
“I’m honoured to be announcing Kamasi Washington’s triumphant return to the Sydney Opera House after the release of last year’s glorious Heaven & Earth record, cementing his impact on jazz and placing him deservedly alongside program alumni titans Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Sonny Rollins,” Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music Ben Marshall said.
"Kamasi’s sold-out debut performance here a year and a half ago tore the roof off the Concert Hall and had us clamouring for his immediate return. His live performances are thrillingly immense and generous musical experiences filled with both political vitality and spiritual reflection in the tradition of black church gospel and John Coltrane. Don’t miss this gentle yet commanding musical force on the Concert Hall stage this October.”
Ticket presale goes live tomorrow from 12pm AEST and you can find more details via theGuide.
