US Duo Girlpool Unveil 2016 Aussie Tour Dates

Ascendant LA-born, Philly-based punk-rock two-piece Girlpool have announced a whirlwind run of Australian shows this January, with the duo being named for this January's Sydney Festival along with unveiling a pair of headline shows to complement their planned event spot.

The duo — comprised of guitarist Cleo Tucker and bassist Harmony Tividad — will get under way at The Brightside, in Brisbane, on Saturday 23 January, heading down for Sydney Festival to perform in The Famous Spiegeltent on Tuesday 26 January. Their final show Down Under will be held at Melbourne's Reverence Hotel, with special guest Summer Flake, on Wednesday 27 January.

The band is a relatively new prospect, having only come together in 2013 and spent the consequent time eking out a reputation for themselves as one of the most energetic, idiosyncratic live performances getting about — the pair perform sans drummer, after all, which isn't what you'd call a common sight. A debut EP (2014's Girlpool) and acclaimed full-length (this year's Before The World Was Big) later, and the duo are already garnering comparisons to the likes of anti-folk luminary Kimya Dawson as far as being incendiary and inventive individuals determined to lay their own path rather than follow anyone else's.
