This is one way to quit a political party...
We might have had a Labor MP who was the frontman of one of the most visceral and exciting rock bands in the history of our nation, but once Peter Garrett hit the top job he very much left his once very public penchant for rock'n'roll behind him.
But in the UK, there's one now former Labour politician who has made a pretty interesting musical recommendation to the party leader upon his resignation.
Tom Watson said that party leader Ed Miliband ought to go and see Drenge if he's interested in seeing a good band; as you do when you're resigning from your position in one of the nation's biggest political parties.
“John Humphrys asked me why you were not at Glastonbury this weekend,” the letter reads. “I said Labour leaders can't be seen standing in muddy fields listening to bands. And then I thought how terribly sad that this is true.

“So: be that great Labour leader that you can be, but try to have a real life too. And if you want to see an awesome band, I recommend Drenge.”
Drenge are a kind of dirty indie-rock two piece from the UK who are signed to Infectious Records. You might have heard their latest single Backwaters on the radio. Their debut album will be released through Liberator next month.
We wonder what Garrett or even former Prime Minister Julia Gillard would have recommended in their resignation letter if they had taken Watson's lead?
Actually, we have a good idea what Ms Gillard would have said.
