Trivium's Matt Heafy Saves Fan From Serious Injury

Trivium seem like a bunch of legends. They churn out consistently solid heavy metal tunes, and they look like really good people.

On Wednesday, 7 June, vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy proved that he really loves his fans when he leapt off the stage as soon as he spotted a crowd surfer at their Dallas, Texas show who wouldn’t have been caught by security and could have faced severe injuries. Check out the footage below.

In the video shared by Heafy himself, the singer can be seen diving off the stage and promptly catching the crowd surfer. If Heafy didn’t jump down when he did, the fan could have fallen six feet over a security barrier (lots of tall fans around) and faced a far more serious outcome.

Bassist Paolo Gregoletto addressed the security guards while Heafy was still on the ground: "Hey, security, you need to go the whole way across and not bunch up in the middle,” he said. "Our singer's not [gonna be] jumping off the stage to catch people tonight, okay? We're not gonna start until there's a couple more people down here."

Captioning the video on Twitter, Heafy wrote: “Don’t ever say we don’t love our fans. Absent security in that spot - dude almost broke his neck - and I had to jump down and catch him! Whew.

“Had to check on a second person on martyr - if that was you - please lmk if you’re alright. Dallas. Holy shit.”

In Kill Your Stereo’s review of Knotfest Sydney earlier this year, we clarified that Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr still goes just as hard as it did circa 2005. Meanwhile, in Brisbane, we commented that Heafy “delivered a masterclass in modern metal”.

We added, “He really does spearhead the band and anchor it in such a way as to translate it to the crowd and the fans, and there is such precision in the delivery.”

In other Matt Heafy news, he recently revealed a collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly’s guitarist Sophie Lloyd.

"Sophie Lloyd is an immensely talented force of a musician and songwriter,” Heafy wrote on Instagram. “I recall first seeing Sophie’s guitar playing online and being truly blown away – so having been a fan of Sophie’s for several years, I was honored [sic] when asked to guest on an upcoming track.

Last year, Heafy started the black metal-inspired project, Ibaraki, and released the album Rashomon in May. Featuring My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, Ihsahn from the band Emperor, and Behemoth's Nergal, the record explores Heafy's Japanese heritage.
