Voting For The Triffid's QLD Album Of The Year Is Now Open!

Today, The Triffid have once again announced the return of their annual Album Of The Year, this year celebrating its 8th birthday with six spectacular Queensland contenders in the running for the title.

Presented in collaboration with The Music, the 2022 winner voted but the Australian public will be crowned at this year's exclusive celebration at The Triffid on Thursday 17 November and will also receive the honour of having their album splayed across the coveted 'Hero Wall', joining the mural with fellow local legends The Go-Betweens, Regurgitator, Custard, Violent Soho, Ball Park Music, Dune Rats and Powderfinger.

And for lucky voter, the annual Triffid Golden Ticket is again up for grabs, granting the holder free entry into every Triffid gig in 2023.

In recent years, the tradition upheld by the beloved Brisbane venue has previously applauded Queensland favourites including The Chats, Tia Gostelow, Cub Sport and Busby Marou, as well as hardcore outfit Stepson taking out the 2021 title.

Kicking off this year's nominees is singer, songwriter and groundbreaking multi-disciplinary artist, Jaguar Jonze with her fierce and fearless debut album BUNNY MODE. Continually proving to be a formidable force, in 2022 Jaguar Jonze has not only wowed with her debut record and headline tour, but an array of awe-inspiring highlights including her Eurovision Australia Decides performance in March, and most recently, her revered keynote at this year’s BIGSOUND received by a full standing ovation. 

Making waves with their mammoth double album Double Overhead, beloved indie five-piece Shag Rock treated fans emerging from the pandemic with a colossal collection of their classic syrupy surf-rock. The vulnerable record, unravelling the interwoven threads of toxic masculinity and mental health, delicately delves into crucial talking points while wrapped in a swathe of sunny grooves and mellow ballads.

Mass Sky Raid are next to stride onto the list of nominees with their explosive album Calm In Chaos. The Gold Coast alt-rock outfit are no strangers to the stage, first stepping onto the scene in 2013 and previously supporting the likes of Dead Letter Circus and Twelve Foot Ninja. Now back with their impressive second album, Mass Sky Raid are only continuing to push their sound to new heights.

Brisbane-born-and-bred pop game-changer Hatchie also joins the bill with her sophomore album Giving The World Away, taking a turn from her signature sparkly shoegaze to embrace a darker, more thunderous soundscape. First emerging as a buzz act in 2017, Hatchie soon gained momentum as a cutting-edge contender in the pop space before her debut record Keepsake earnt her a nomination for Breakthrough Independent Artist at the 2019 AIR Awards.

Coming up next are rising indie favourites Eliza and The Delusionals with their debut album Now And Then. The highly-anticipated record, arriving after a string of hyped singles, showcases the group’s irresistibly infectious brand of pop-rock, dipping into ‘90s and early '00s nostalgia, hazy riffs and windows-down car-belting bangers.

Rounding out the list this year we have Brisbane local punk-rock legends Semantics, also with their debut album Paint Me Blue. From sharing the stage with the likes of Violent Soho and WAAX, Semantics have made their mark over the past 5 years as a staple of the Aus indie punk scene, attracting a passionate fan following for their versatility spanning power-packed headbangers and stripped-back guitar ballads.
