Tony Hawk & Friends (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die) Cover Nine Inch Nails Classic

Of course, we all know Tony Hawk the skateboarding legend (and titular star of the Pro Skater games), but how about Tony Hawk the rockstar?

The Pro Skater video games are packed with incredible tunes, from Bad Religion, Green Day, Alex Lahey, Rage Against The Machine and many more, so it's no real surprise that Tony Hawk is a punk himself. 

Yesterday, Hawk proved his rockstar status is beyond dispute, taking on a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ Wish from the band’s 1992 debut EP, Broken.

The cover features a stacked roster of metal and hardcore legends, including guitarist Ben Weinman (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicidal Tendencies), bassist Brad Magers (The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx), keyboardist Kat Lucas (stormylovechild, ex-P!nk), drummer Ryan "Legs" Leger (ex-Every Time I Die, ex-Norma Jean), guitarist and percussionist Mikey Hawdon (Fairmounts), and a cameo by none other than Trent Reznor himself (yelling “fist fuck” at Tony Hawk, who skates past him). This cover genuinely rocks.

The video was recorded for the Mikey And His Uke YouTube channel. Hawk’s vocals sound better than ever, bringing a punk-rock flair to an industrial metal song. The bass is beefy, the guitars chug through it, and Lucas and Leger look like they’re having the time of their lives playing along to a classic.

Earlier this year, Tony Hawk teamed up with Pro Skater favourites Goldfinger and performed Superman, the ska band's hit single popularised through the video game.

Playing a show at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California, Goldfinger vocalist John Feldmann invited Hawk to the stage, referring to the famous skateboarder as "Mr Tony Fucking Hawk".

The band fired on all cylinders, ripping straight into Superman; as Hawk was still gaining his bearings, he quipped, "I hope you know this song. Are you ready? Here we go."

Before leaving the stage, Hawk said about the performance, "That song has defined our video game series for decades. It’s been an honour to finally join these guys."

In an interview with Loudwire, Feldmann told the publication how being on the Pro Skater video game changed the band members' lives. Read an excerpt of the interview below.

“I really didn’t know how much Tony Hawk helped our band with that song until we were on tour in England. We were touring with Bloodhound Gang and supporting them as they had this huge hit at the time in Germany, so we played with them in England and all of a sudden when we played “Superman,” everyone went ballistic. It was the biggest circle pit of the entire night. 

“There was no moment in Bloodhound Gang’s set or our set that surpassed what happened with that song. I was like, “What the fuck is happening with this song?” But I put two and two together and realized that Pro Skater had globally just become this huge hit of a video game.”
