Tia Gostelow Drops Spellbinding Single 'Early Twenties' And National Tour Dates

Tia Gostelow has returned with another breathtaking preview of her upcoming Head Noise album, today sharing the soulful and infectious Early Twenties.

The song shines with honeyed melodies and a playful, groove-tinged bassline that makes its chorus inhumanely catchy. Gostelow herself describes it as “a comfort song for anyone in the midst of their early twenties, reflecting on those years or about to make their way into them”.

She explained further in a statement shared alongside Early Twenties: “I think it’s a song for everyone. I remember being in high school and thinking that being 21/22/23 sounded so mature and I thought I’d have my shit together by then, but the reality is you still don’t really know who you are and what you wanna be or do and that’s okay. 

“I wanted to highlight all of the feelings and emotions of being this age, sometimes it can feel like your world is in pieces, a lot of ‘firsts’ are happening, hearts get broken, I feel like I’ve finally found my people after years of not knowing where I fit in friendship groups. 

“I really believe these years are so special. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately and I honestly do think these years are vital in what shapes you as a person and the best is yet to come... I hope that when people listen to Early Twenties, they know it’s absolutely okay to not who you are yet, I still don’t, but all we can do is try our best and that’s all that matters.”

Early Twenties was co-written by Gostelow, Daniel James and Rami Jrade. It was heavily inspired by Courtney Love and Hole, the leading artist said, noting: “When it comes to the production of the song, we kept it live and raw. It’s so fun to play together as a band and I feel like the song really holds it own.”

The track arrives alongside a music video directed by Phoebe Faye and starring a jam-packed ensemble cast (including the scene-stealing cat Layla). You can check that out below.

Early Twenties comes as our third taste of Head Noise, following the release of Spring To Life back in February and Sour in April. The album itself is due out on August 18 via Lovely Records, and you can pre-order it here. 

In a recent interview with TheMusic, Gostelow explained that making Head Noise was all about reconnecting with her core ethos as an artist: “I brought back the guitars, I embraced the country twang in my voice. I wrote the songs on an acoustic guitar. Even the way we recorded it – sitting around in a room with my band, just playing the tracks live over and over again – was getting back in touch with the way I started making music.”

As for that tour, Gostelow will kick things off at her very own music festival, Sugardrop, on Saturday September 16. Going down in the northern Queensland hotspot of Yuwibara/Mackay, it’ll be co-headlined by Gostelow and The Terrys, with the bill rounded out by Peach Fur, Jem Cassar-Daley, Mt Nadir, Inside Lane and Clovr & Pace.

Following that, Gostelow’s run of headline shows will travel through Gurambilbarra/Townsville, Gimuy/Cairns, Naarm/Melbourne, Gadigal/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane and Kabi Kabi/Maroochydore.
