There's Two Songs Neck-And-Neck For The Hottest 100 Top Spot

We have been alerted by triple j that the #1 and #2 songs vying for the top spot on this year's Hottest 100 have fewer than 125 votes separating the two. 

The tracks have also switched positions in the leadup to voting closing on Monday, 23 January - the pointy end could change at any moment.

You have officially been warned/reminded to get your votes in - this could get as close as 2007's Hottest 100, in which only 13 votes separated the Muse space-age Western classic, Knights Of Cydonia, and Silverchair's anthem, Straight Lines, with the British rock band taking the win.

In the best time of year for triple j listeners and list enthusiasts, the voting for the national youth broadcaster's Hottest 100 opened on 13 December.

The big day when you'll hear all your favourite songs arrives on Saturday, 28 January 2023 - the songs that almost made it, the Hottest 200 of 2022, will air on triple j the day before. Double J will cap off celebrations on Sunday, 29 January 2023, by replaying the Hottest 100 of 2002.

To avoid saying "shoulda been higher" on the day, make sure you vote by heading here - voting closes on 23 January 2023 at noon.

Any guesses as to which songs are dominating this year's triple j Hottest 100?

"The internet's most accurate prediction", Warm Tunas, has again been crunching the numbers. 

While the Warm Tunas rankings are no sure bet - as it's based on screenshots and hashtags posted to social media - it correctly predicted the 2018 #1 (Ocean Alley's Confidence) and the 2017 winner (Kendrick Lamar's HUMBLE.).

For the 2020 countdown, Warm Tunas correctly predicted UK outfit Glass Animals' Heat Waves to come out on top ahead of local bands. For this year's countdown, the website currently predicts Gang Of Youths' emotive banger, in the wake of your leave, to take the top spot above Stars In My Eyes by Ball Park Music and Spacey Jane's Hardlight. We still have a few weeks to go and the prediction stems from 26366 votes counted across 2930 images.

Radio station 4ZZZ unveiled its Hottest 100 of 2022 last week. The winner was Square Tugs ft. Polly Cooke, with their cracking song, I Don't Like It. In second place was the self-proclaimed punk-nerd band Mitch, Please, with their track Rich Mitch and Thrash/Death Metal band Idle Ruin scored third place with Valley Inferno.  

Fourth place went out to King Stingray with Camp Dog, and Brisbane babes The Double Happiness took out #5 with their tune Smoking Gun. #6 went to Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers with their banger, Girl Sports, and Samantha Josephine stole seventh place with Feel The Hate. The last ones squeezing into those top ten spots were Thelma Plum with The Brown Snake, Full Flower Moon Band with NY-LA, and Doggie Heaven with Berghain. See the rest of the picks here.
