The acclaimed LP will take its place atop the venue's iconic Wall Of Fame from tomorrow
The first annual Triffid Queensland Album Of The Year competition has drawn to a close, with alt-country heroes Halfway emerging the inaugural victors for their acclaimed full-length, The Golden Halfway Record.
The seasoned ensemble accrued just under 34% of the total votes, with Cheap Fakes' Modern Vintage first runner-up at 23%. Halfway also bested remaining nominees Holy Holy (When The Storms Would Come), Sahara Beck (Panacea) and The Jungle Giants (Speakerzoid) to claim the prize.
Halfway member John Busby paid tribute to both the venue — of which the band is a stalwart fixture, having even shot the clip for their excellent tune Bret Canham's Leather Jacket there — and its co-owner, John 'JC' Collins, for their continued dedication to, and championing of, local live music.
"We are delighted to be honoured as The Triffid's Queensland Album of the Year," Busby said.

"Having our The Golden Halfway Record spine painted on The Triffid's iconic wall alongside some of Queensland's best bands is an absolute honour, and thank you to everyone who voted for us. We are extremely grateful to JC for his ongoing support of local, independent music."
The spine of the band's album will take its place atop the venue's Wall Of Fame from tomorrow, when it's due to be painted on amid The Triffid's second-birthday celebrations.
Halfway recently put out a live album recorded at the venue — fittingly enough titled Halfway Live At The Triffid — and The Music was privileged to premiere it ahead of its release. Give it a listen and find out more here.
