After teasing their return to Australia just days ago, The Flaming Lips have officially announced their first Australian tour in over five years.
Starting the tour at Adelaide’s AEC Theatre on Thursday, 30 January, the psychedelic rockers continue the run at Melbourne’s Festival Hall (Saturday, 1 February), Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion (Sunday, 2 February), and wrap up at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Wednesday, 5 February.
In exciting news for fans, the tour promises to be one like they’ve never seen, with The Flaming Lips playing their seminal 2002 LP, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, in its entirety – as well as some cult classics. It’s a show for the fans.
Pre-sale tickets for The Flaming Lips’ upcoming tour will be available next Wednesday, 21 August, at 9 am AEST. You can sign up here to access those tickets. The general sale begins at 9 am AEST on Friday, 23 August, via Destroy All Lines.
When The Flaming Lips last toured in Australia in 2019, they embarked on another anniversary run, celebrating their 1999 classic, The Soft Bulletin. 2019 also saw the band release their 15th studio album, King’s Mouth, which was followed in 2020 by American Head.
The Flaming Lips’ last release was Where The Viaduct Looms, a nine-track effort that saw them cover songs by Nick Cave. The LP was a collaborative effort with Canadian musician Nell Smith, who at the time of its recording was just 13 years old.
