The Angels Announce First Album In 10 Years 'Ninety Nine'

Aussie punk rock legends The Angels have just announced their first album in ten years, Ninety Nine, and dropped the title track, Ninety Nine (Go For Broke).

Featuring the Brewster brothers’ signature energetic riffage and rhythmic delights, former drummer-turned-singer Nick Norton comes into his own and even summons the nasal singing passages of the legendary Doc Neeson in the second verse.

The release of Ninety Nine, The Angels’ first album since 2014’s Talk The Talk, coincides with the beginning of the band’s 50 Not Out commemorative tour, set for release on Friday, 28 June. The gig at St Kilda’s Prince Bandroom (with special guests Mi-Sex) is now an album launch show.

The Angels founder and guitarist John Brewster said in a press release, “I haven’t been this excited about anything we’ve done in the studio for many, many years.

“I’m proud of everything this band has done, but we have what I call ‘benchmark albums’, particularly Face To Face, No Exit and Dark Room. This, to me, is a benchmark album.”

Fellow founder and guitarist Rick Brewster agreed with his brother, adding, “It’s a good feeling. We got what we set out to achieve. This is The Angels 2024.”

Regarding the new song’s lyrical content, written by Norton and bassist Sam Brewster (John Brewster’s son), Norton said: “It refers to the fact that 99 per cent of us have to accept our lot, while the one per cent take the lion’s share. The super-rich are richer than they’ve ever been.”
